Scaffolding Access Solutions for Whipps Cross University Hospital, Leytonstone, East London

B-MAT Scaffolding was instructed to provide a range of safe, compliant access solutions at Whipps Cross University Hospital in Leytonstone, East London. Working within a live hospital environment, this project required careful planning, strict adherence to safety standards, and minimal disruption to patients, staff, and daily operations.
Due to the varied nature of the works, multiple scaffold solutions were required across different areas of the site. Our experienced team worked closely with site management to coordinate installations, ensuring all access systems were delivered on schedule and in line with hospital safety protocols.
To facilitate safe access to an external balcony, an independent scaffold was erected to the front elevation. This provided a stable, fully boarded working platform with appropriate edge protection, allowing contractors to carry out their works safely at height while maintaining clear and secure routes below.
In addition, a small scaffold access tower was installed to allow safe entry to a flat roof area. The tower was designed to offer secure access for inspection and maintenance tasks, while occupying a minimal footprint — an important consideration within a busy healthcare setting.
A scaffold walkway bridge was also supplied to provide controlled access to a balcony area. This solution ensured operatives could move safely across the site without interfering with hospital access routes, emergency pathways, or pedestrian flow.
All scaffolding was erected in accordance with TG21 compliance and SG4 working-at-height guidelines. Regular inspections were carried out to ensure continued safety throughout the duration of the works, giving the client complete confidence in the integrity and reliability of the access systems provided.
