B-MAT Scaffolding was appointed to provide a fully boarded independent pavement scaffold on Southend-on-Sea High Street in South-East Essex. The scaffold was required to allow safe access for external works while operating above a busy retail unit, Greggs, in a high-footfall town-centre location.
Working on a main high street presented specific challenges, including continuous pedestrian traffic, active retail operations, and strict local authority requirements. The scaffold was designed to provide safe working platforms at height while maintaining a secure and clearly defined pedestrian route beneath.
The structure was erected as a fully independent scaffold and fully boarded throughout, offering robust protection for members of the public and shop staff below. Particular attention was given to edge protection, toe boards, and debris control to prevent the risk of falling materials in this busy commercial environment.

All scaffolding was installed by trained and qualified operatives in full compliance with TG21 guidance and SG4 safe working at height principles. The scaffold was inspected on completion and subject to regular statutory inspections to ensure it remained safe, stable, and compliant for the duration of the works.
The pavement scaffold was dismantled promptly and safely once access was no longer required, restoring the public walkway to normal use with minimal disruption.
