B-MAT Scaffolding were appointed to provide a specialist access solution to enable a main contractor to safely access the roof of Lewisham Shopping Centre in Lewisham, South London. This project required a carefully planned scaffold installation that supported ongoing commercial operations while allowing essential works to be carried out at height.
Given the scale and public nature of the site, safety, coordination, and minimal disruption were critical factors throughout the project. Our experienced commercial scaffolding team designed and erected a TG21-compliant scaffold system that provided secure access routes to the roof level, ensuring contractors could work efficiently while maintaining strict safety controls.
To further support the project programme and reduce manual handling risks, B-MAT installed a 150kg electric material winch as part of the scaffold solution. This allowed tools and materials to be lifted safely and efficiently to roof level, helping to maintain productivity while reducing the need for repeated manual lifting on a busy commercial site.
All scaffold components were erected in accordance with SG4 guidelines and UK scaffolding regulations, with particular attention given to edge protection, safe access points, and load management. The scaffold layout was carefully coordinated to integrate with the shopping centre environment, maintaining safe pedestrian routes and ensuring business operations could continue uninterrupted below.
As with all commercial projects, regular inspections were carried out by qualified scaffolders to ensure the structure remained safe, stable, and fully compliant for the duration of the works.
