School Access Tower for Roof Repairs at Park Academy, Merton, South London
Location: Dorset Road Merton South london SW19 3EF
B-MAT Scaffolding was appointed by a returning client to provide a school access tower at Park Academy in Merton, South London, to enable safe access for roof repair works. The project formed part of planned maintenance to address issues identified on the school roof.
Given the educational setting, safety and programme planning were key priorities. To minimise risk and disruption, all scaffolding works were scheduled to take place during the school half-term period, while pupils were away from site.
A scaffold access tower was selected as the most suitable solution, providing a compact footprint and a stable, fully boarded working platform at roof level. This allowed roofing contractors to access the affected areas safely and carry out repairs efficiently without reliance on ladders or temporary access methods.
The access tower was designed and positioned to maintain clear routes around the school buildings and to support safe movement of operatives and materials. Guardrails, toe boards, and secure ladder access were incorporated as standard to ensure effective fall prevention.
All scaffolding was erected by trained and qualified operatives in accordance with TG21 guidance and SG4 safe working at height principles. The scaffold was inspected on completion and maintained in a safe and compliant condition for the duration of the roof works.
Installation and dismantling were completed within the agreed half-term window, allowing the site to be fully cleared and returned to normal use ahead of the school reopening.
This project at Park Academy highlights B-MAT Scaffolding’s experience in delivering safe, well-managed access solutions for schools. As a trusted, returning contractor, we continue to support educational clients by combining reliable service, careful scheduling, and a strong safety-first approach.
