B-MAT Scaffolding was appointed to provide access scaffolding at St Catherine’s School in Guildford, Surrey, to support soffit, fascia board, and gutter maintenance works. The project required a carefully planned scaffolding solution suitable for a live educational environment, with strict controls around safety, timing, and site management.
The scaffold was designed to provide safe and continuous access along the required elevations, allowing contractors to carry out gutter repairs and works to soffits and fascia boards efficiently and safely at height. Fully boarded working platforms were installed at the appropriate levels to support the scope of the maintenance works.
To minimise disruption to pupils, staff, and daily school operations, the scaffold installation and dismantling were scheduled to take place entirely during the school half-term period. This ensured that all access works were completed while the site was largely unoccupied, significantly reducing risk and inconvenience.
All scaffolding was erected by trained and qualified operatives in accordance with TG21 guidance and SG4 safe working at height principles. Edge protection, guardrails, toe boards, and secure access points were provided as standard to maintain a safe working environment throughout the project.
Given the educational setting, particular attention was paid to safeguarding, site tidiness, and clear segregation of work areas. The scaffold layout was planned to maintain safe access routes around the school buildings and to protect surrounding areas from falling debris.
The scaffold remained subject to regular inspections to ensure it stayed safe, stable, and compliant for the duration of the gutter works. Upon completion of the maintenance activities, the scaffold was dismantled promptly and safely, returning the site to normal use ahead of the school reopening.
