Muswell Hill is Edwardian almost end to end, and that shapes every scaffold we build in N10. Deep bay roofs, tall stacks, original clay tiles and high-level gutter runs. Edwardian bay roofs and tall stacks
Most of N10 went up in the 1900s, much of it developed by James Edmondson, and it is remarkably consistent. Streets like Connaught Gardens, Cranley Gardens, Twyford Avenue and Wood Vale are lined with big bay-fronted terraces and semis: deep bay roofs that need their own access, tall chimney stacks well above the ridge, and original clay tiles that break if you walk them. On the Broadway the Edwardian parades have flats and offices above the shops, with Alexandra Palace and its park a short walk away. That stock means bay roof scaffolds, chimney lifts and full house scaffolds rather than a simple single-lift job.
Narrow frontages, hills and Haringey licences
Haringey is the highway authority as well as the planning authority, so a pavement licence has to be in place before the scaffold goes up. That application is ours to make, not yours. Muswell Hill adds its own problems. Front gardens are short, so the scaffold often reaches over a hedge or low wall onto the pavement. Parking is nose to tail, so we book suspensions where the wagon has to stand. Several conservation areas cover the Broadway and the roads around it, worth checking before work that changes a roof or an elevation.

With a scaffold built around the bay rather than against it. We take a lift out over the bay so the roofer can stand and work on the flat and the tiled cheeks safely, board it out, and tie back into the main elevation. On these houses that usually goes up with the main front scaffold, so the roof, gutter and stack are all reachable in one go.

Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
