Waltham Cross is a few minutes from our yard, over the river in EN8. We scaffold the Victorian terraces on the streets off Hertford Road, the 1930s semis and post-war estates behind them, and the flats and offices sitting above the shops on the pedestrianised High Street. Waltham Cross is a mixed patch. Over a parade of shops we build the first lift high enough to clear the doorways, board and light the walkway underneath, and fit brick guards and debris netting so nothing can drop onto the footway. Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
