Scaffolding in Camden, NW1
Camden covers more kinds of building than almost any borough we work in: Georgian squares in Bloomsbury, shop parades in Camden Town, Victorian terraces in Kentish Town and large detached houses on the Hampstead hills. We scaffold all of it across NW1, NW3, NW5 and WC1 — front and rear scaffolds, temporary roofs, birdcages inside stairwells and atria, gantries over the footway, and designed scaffolds where the ground or the building will not take a standard one.
NW1, NW3, NW5, WC1 / North London
We have been going since 2014 and Camden is regular work for us. Every scaffolder on site is CISRS-qualified, we hold CHAS and Constructionline Gold, and scaffolds are built to TG20:21 or to an engineer's design, then inspected before first use and at intervals of no more than seven days. Site visits and written quotations are free.
Bloomsbury squares, Camden Town and the Hampstead hills
Bloomsbury is Georgian terraces round garden squares, four and five storeys over a basement, nearly all listed and a great many of them in institutional use — university buildings, hotels and chambers that have to keep working while the scaffold is up. Camden Town and Kentish Town are Victorian terraces and shop parades with some of the busiest footways in London outside the West End. Hampstead is the one that changes the engineering: the streets are steep and narrow, the houses are large and detached, and the ground falls away across the plot, so scaffolds there need stepped foundations and often a designed base rather than a standard one.
Camden Council licences, and where TfL takes over
Camden is the planning and highway authority for most of the borough, so the scaffold licence and parking suspension come from the council and we apply for them. The main exceptions are the trunk roads — Euston Road among them — which belong to Transport for London and need their licence instead. We confirm which applies before quoting. Bloomsbury and Hampstead are almost entirely conservation area and heavily listed, so ties and fixings are agreed with you and the conservation officer before anything arrives on site. Camden Town's footways are busy enough at weekends that erection and dismantle are normally booked for early mornings.
Commercial scaffolding in Camden
Commercial scaffolding in Camden means universities, hotels, chambers and offices around Euston and King's Cross, plus the shop parades in Camden Town and Kentish Town. Nearly all of it is an occupied building that stays open, so the work tends to be birdcage scaffolds inside stairwells and atria, fans and boarded walkways outside, and a lot of it done out of hours. Managing agents and main contractors expect drawings, calculations and a documented inspection regime before anyone steps on it, and we supply all three on designed work.

Scaffolding in Camden — your questions
Yes, and most of Camden's older housing is either listed or in a conservation area. The scaffold itself does not normally need consent, but fixing into the building might, so we agree the ties and fixings with you and the conservation officer first. Where drilling is not acceptable we tie back to the ground or build free-standing and ballasted instead, which is a designed scaffold and comes with drawings and calculations. A scaffold standing on the pavement also needs a licence from Camden, or from Transport for London on roads such as Euston Road.
There is no honest flat rate — the price depends on how many elevations you need, the height, how long the scaffold stays up, and how easy the site is to get to. We come out, look at the job for free, and send a written quotation with the hire period and everything included spelled out. You will not get a number guessed over the phone.
Call us on 020 8050 1296 and we will tell you what we have free that week. We book the free site visit first, then confirm an erection date with the written quote so you can plan your trades around it. Emergency and reactive work is something we do regularly — if a roof has failed or a building needs making safe, say so when you call.
Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
