Scaffolding in Barnet, EN4 and EN5

Barnet is a short run round the M25 from our Nazeing yard and down the A1000. We scaffold the Victorian terraces off the High Street, the Georgian houses around Hadley Green, the Edwardian and 1930s semis that fill New Barnet and East Barnet, and the shops, offices and blocks of flats along the main roads. Roofs, chimneys, lofts, dormers, render and full refurbishments.

EN4, EN5  /  North London

Every scaffolder on a B-MAT job is CISRS-qualified, and we hold CHAS and Constructionline Gold. Scaffolds are built to TG20:21, or to a design where the building needs one, and inspected before first use and at intervals not exceeding seven days. The site visit and the written quotation are free, with up to eight weeks of free hire time, subject to terms.

Barnet Hill, Hadley Green and the 1930s semis

High Barnet sits on top of a hill, and that shapes the work. The High Street climbs up past the church of St John the Baptist with shops below and flats and offices above, so scaffolds there stand on a sloping pavement and need levelling at the base. Around Wood Street and Hadley Green the houses are Georgian and early Victorian and sit inside conservation areas, where ties are kept out of old brickwork wherever the design allows. Away from the centre, New Barnet and East Barnet are Victorian terraces near the station and then street after street of Edwardian and 1930s semis, where most of the work is loft conversions, rear dormers and re-roofs.

Barnet Council licences, parking and side access

The London Borough of Barnet is both the planning authority and the highway authority, so the scaffold licence and any parking bay suspension come from the same place. We make the application and carry the insurance it asks for. The High Street and the roads around High Barnet station are busy and parked up, so the loading point and the delivery slot are agreed before the lorry leaves the yard. On the residential streets the usual question is side access: a shared drive or a narrow passage decides whether a rear scaffold is carried through by hand, or the job is done from the front with a walkway over the ridge.

Commercial and industrial scaffolding in Barnet

Commercial scaffolding in Barnet is mostly occupied buildings: shops and offices on the High Street, blocks of flats, schools and healthcare sites, where entrances, fire escapes and the pavement all have to stay usable. Industrial scaffolding is a smaller part of it, on the workshops, trade units and depots tucked behind the main roads, and tends to mean roof edge protection, access towers and safe routes for maintenance contractors. Scaffolding companies get compared on price, but on commercial work the difference is the paperwork, and ours is done: method statements, risk assessments, handover certificates and weekly inspection records.

FAQs

Scaffolding in Barnet — your questions

Usually, yes. Where there is no way round the side of the house, we either carry the materials through, or work from the front: an access tower on the front elevation with a walkway over the ridge, which is what we built on Leicester Road in EN5. We look at the access on the free site visit and tell you which will work before we quote.

There is no honest flat rate — the price depends on how many elevations you need, the height, how long the scaffold stays up, and how easy the site is to get to. We come out, look at the job for free, and send a written quotation with the hire period and everything included spelled out. You will not get a number guessed over the phone.

Call us on 020 8050 1296 and we will tell you what we have free that week. We book the free site visit first, then confirm an erection date with the written quote so you can plan your trades around it. Emergency and reactive work is something we do regularly — if a roof has failed or a building needs making safe, say so when you call.

Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
