Scaffolding in St Albans, AL1 to AL4
St Albans is a run west along the M25 from our Nazeing yard, coming off at junction 22. We scaffold across AL1 to AL4: timber-framed and Georgian buildings in the centre, Victorian terraces around the station and Fleetville, the semis and detached houses of Marshalswick, and shops, offices and industrial units. Roofs, chimneys, lofts, extensions, repointing and full refurbishments.
AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4 / Hertfordshire
We have been established since 2014. Every scaffolder is CISRS-qualified, the company is CHAS assessed and Constructionline Gold registered, and anything that cannot be built straight to TG20:21 gets a proper design. Each scaffold is inspected before it is handed over and then at least every seven days. Site visits and written quotations are free.
Cathedral city centre, Victorian terraces, 1930s estates
The middle of St Albans is old and protected. Around the Cathedral, the Clock Tower, George Street and Fishpool Street the buildings are medieval timber frame and Georgian brick, many of them listed and all of them inside the conservation area, on narrow streets with Holywell Hill dropping steeply away to the south. Scaffolds here are hand-built, kept tight to the frontage and tied without drilling into soft brick or timber where there is another way. East of the centre, the streets around the City station and out through Fleetville are Victorian and Edwardian terraces with back additions and party-wall stacks. Further out, Marshalswick and the newer estates have room for a straightforward independent scaffold and a loading bay.
Two authorities and a market on St Peter's Street
Hertfordshire County Council is the highway authority, so a pavement or road licence comes from the county, and we make the application. Planning, listed building consent and the conservation area sit with St Albans City and District Council. On a listed building, consent can be needed for the works and sometimes for how the scaffold fixes to the fabric, so we look at tying options early. The street market takes over St Peter's Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the centre is narrow and busy at the best of times, so city-centre deliveries are booked around both.
Commercial and industrial scaffolding in St Albans
Commercial scaffolding in St Albans runs from shopfronts and offices in the centre, built over a pavement that stays open, to schools and blocks of flats further out. Industrial scaffolding is on the estates at Porters Wood and along Ashley Road and Hatfield Road, where warehouses and units need roof access, edge protection for flat-roof and solar work, and towers put up around a business that keeps running. We have done exactly that on industrial units elsewhere in Hertfordshire. Not all scaffolding companies hold CHAS and Constructionline Gold. We do, so most of the pre-qualification is already done.

Scaffolding in St Albans — your questions
We avoid it. The market runs along St Peter's Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so we plan city-centre deliveries, erection and striking for other days and agree the timing with you first. Any scaffold standing on the footway needs a licence from Hertfordshire County Council, which we apply for, and it is boarded, lit and guarded so the pavement stays usable while it is up.
There is no honest flat rate — the price depends on how many elevations you need, the height, how long the scaffold stays up, and how easy the site is to get to. We come out, look at the job for free, and send a written quotation with the hire period and everything included spelled out. You will not get a number guessed over the phone.
Call us on 020 8050 1296 and we will tell you what we have free that week. We book the free site visit first, then confirm an erection date with the written quote so you can plan your trades around it. Emergency and reactive work is something we do regularly — if a roof has failed or a building needs making safe, say so when you call.
Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
