Scaffolding in Waltham Abbey, EN9
Waltham Abbey is our home town. The yard is at Lakeside Nursery on Pecks Hill, so an EN9 job is the shortest run we make. We scaffold terraced houses near the town centre, semis out towards Town Mead, chimneys, roofs, extensions, render work and blocks of flats. Someone comes out and looks at the job before we quote.
EN9 / Essex
B-MAT Scaffolding has been trading since 2014. Every scaffolder on site is CISRS-qualified, the work is fully guaranteed and we carry full public liability insurance. Site visits, consultation and written quotations are free, and there is up to eight weeks of free hire time, subject to terms.
From Highbridge Street to Town Mead
Waltham Abbey splits into three sorts of job. Around Highbridge Street, the Abbey gardens and the Abbey Church of Waltham Holy Cross, buildings are older and often listed, so the scaffold is hand-built, kept tight to the frontage and tied without cutting into soft old brickwork. Step back from the centre and it is Victorian and Edwardian terraces with party-wall stacks and shared gutters, where we build to the boundary and agree access with the neighbour first. Out towards Town Mead and the newer estates, the large interwar and post-war semis usually have room for a straightforward independent scaffold and a loading bay.
Pavement licences and Essex County Council
If any part of the scaffold stands on the public footpath or the road, it needs a highway licence before it goes up. In Waltham Abbey that comes from Essex County Council, and we make the application, not you. Planning and listed building consent sit with Epping Forest District Council, which matters around the Abbey and the conservation area along Highbridge Street. Deliveries are planned around town-centre traffic and the run down to junction 26 of the M25.

Scaffolding in Waltham Abbey — your questions
Yes. Any scaffold standing on the public footway or carriageway in Waltham Abbey needs a highway licence from Essex County Council before it is erected. We apply, supply the insurance details, and build with the lighting, boarding and protection the licence asks for. If the whole scaffold sits on your own drive or garden, no licence is needed.
There is no honest flat rate — the price depends on how many elevations you need, the height, how long the scaffold stays up, and how easy the site is to get to. We come out, look at the job for free, and send a written quotation with the hire period and everything included spelled out. You will not get a number guessed over the phone.
Call us on 020 8050 1296 and we will tell you what we have free that week. We book the free site visit first, then confirm an erection date with the written quote so you can plan your trades around it. Emergency and reactive work is something we do regularly — if a roof has failed or a building needs making safe, say so when you call.
Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
