Scaffolding in Hackney, E8
Hackney puts Victorian terraces, converted warehouses, post-war estates and new blocks on the same street, and the access is different for every one of them. We scaffold houses, flats, shops and commercial buildings across E5, E8, E9, N1 and N16: front and rear scaffolds for roofing and redecoration, temporary roofs, loft conversions, gantries that keep the footway open, and designed scaffolds where the building or the pavement calls for one.
E5, E8, E9, N1, N16 / East London
We have been going since 2014 and North and East London is regular work for us. Every scaffolder on site is CISRS-qualified, we hold CHAS and Constructionline Gold, and scaffolds are built to TG20:21 or to an engineer's design, then inspected before first use and at intervals of no more than seven days. Site visits and written quotations are free.
Terraces, warehouse conversions and estates
The terraces around London Fields and Clapton are two and three storeys with a rear return and a side return barely wider than a wheelbarrow, so rear scaffolds are usually carried through the house or craned over. Stoke Newington and De Beauvoir are earlier and largely in conservation areas. Hackney Wick and Fish Island are different again: brick and steel-framed warehouse conversions with no forecourt at all, where the scaffold stands straight off the carriageway and the licence matters more than the design. The estates — Pembury, Woodberry Down and the blocks around them — need long runs with communal entrances, bin stores and fire escapes kept open throughout.
Hackney Council licences, LTNs and School Streets
Hackney is the highway authority, so the scaffold licence and any parking bay suspension come from the council and we make the applications. The part people get caught out by is traffic: Hackney runs more low-traffic neighbourhoods and School Streets than almost any other London borough, with camera-enforced filters and timed closures around the school run. A delivery that assumes it can drive straight through gets a penalty notice rather than a parking ticket. We check the filters and the closure times for your street before quoting, so the price reflects the access that actually exists. Parking is controlled throughout, and Clapton Square, London Fields and Church Street are conservation areas, so ties and fixings get agreed before anything arrives.
Commercial scaffolding in Hackney
Commercial scaffolding in Hackney is mostly Dalston, Hackney Central and the Shoreditch fringe: shops, bars, studios and offices, nearly all of it built over a public footway with people underneath. That means fans, boarded and lit walkways, debris netting, and a good deal of the erecting done before the shops open. Hackney Wick adds light industrial and studio units where the work is plant access — roof-level kit, flues and risers, usually with a staircase or hoist to get the gear up. Managing agents and main contractors here expect drawings, calculations and an inspection regime, and we supply all three on designed work.

Scaffolding in Hackney — your questions
Yes. An LTN filter restricts through traffic, not access — every address stays reachable, you just cannot drive straight across the zone, so the lorry has to come in from the correct side. The filters are camera-enforced, so the route is worth getting right first time. School Streets are different again: those close to vehicles at fixed times around the school run, so deliveries and dismantles get booked outside them. Tell us the street when you call and we check both before we quote.
There is no honest flat rate — the price depends on how many elevations you need, the height, how long the scaffold stays up, and how easy the site is to get to. We come out, look at the job for free, and send a written quotation with the hire period and everything included spelled out. You will not get a number guessed over the phone.
Call us on 020 8050 1296 and we will tell you what we have free that week. We book the free site visit first, then confirm an erection date with the written quote so you can plan your trades around it. Emergency and reactive work is something we do regularly — if a roof has failed or a building needs making safe, say so when you call.
Yes. If any part of the scaffold sits on the public highway or footpath, the highway authority has to licence it before it goes up. We handle the application, the drawings and the conditions that come with it — including lighting, hoarding and pedestrian protection where the council asks for them.
